Nobody wants generic
I was lucky enough to be invited to a wedding in Tuscany recently.
The occasion definitely called for a new dress. I love dresses and hadn’t bought a new one for a while, so this was super exciting!
An entire evening passed without me noticing. I looked at online stores of all my favourite shops for possible new dresses. Most of the things I saw were too short, or too fitted, or just, too, well, ‘generic’.
Was it too much to ask to find something that suited me, as well as the occasion and the climate?
There were plenty of pretty dresses but they all looked the same.
I wanted something less conventional. Something unique.
Then I saw something I really liked.
It wasn’t really a typical dress that you’d wear to a wedding. It cost a little more money than the others, but it was made of silk, and I told myself it was worth it.
After I ordered it, just to make sure I had options, I ordered 4 other dresses, in a range of colours and styles.
When everything was delivered, I tried everything on, with my husband and daughter to give me honest feedback!
The dress I really liked was everyone’s favourite. I felt comfortable and it looked great with the sandals I wanted to wear, plus I had a shawl and a bag that made it into a complete outfit.
The others, while more ’traditional’ and ‘conventional’ made me feel formal and awkward.
The right choice
On the day of the wedding, I felt happy and relaxed in my outfit. I felt that I looked like myself, rather than the same as everyone else.
I knew I’d made the right choice. Yes, it had cost me a little more money than I wanted to spend, but I felt that it had been worth it.
Your clients want more than a dress
The main thing our clients want from working with us, is to be treated as an individual, to be heard and understood.
Yes, they are looking for an effective treatment, something that is safe, without side-effects, affordable, and convenient. (Yes, all of those things!)
But above and beyond all of those, they are looking for someone they can trust.
Show them something different
Your prospective clients don’t want something from the high street. They have usually tried conventional but it hasn’t worked.
They’re looking for something different.
How will they know they have come to the right place?
Your website is like a shop window. You want them to entice people to come inside. To linger. To browse.
You want them to see that you offer something special.
Three ways to show you’re unique
You have three main ways to get our message across – through our branding, our personal photograph, and our words.
This is more than your logo or your niche (if you have one), it’s your entire ‘look and feel‘.
Do you stand out from the crowd?
Do you have a (professional) photograph/s that shows your individuality?
Does your personality shine through?
Do your words sound the way you speak? Do you sound friendly? Approachable?
Remember, you only have one opportunity to make a first impression.
If you’re looking for ways to uplevel your website so that it brings a steady stream of new clients, I really recommend changing one or two, or even all of those three elements. Small steps make can make a big difference in no time.
